A Faculty of Biological Sciences student was recently shortlisted in an access to understanding writing competition.

Katarzyna Makowska has been recognised by Europe PubMed Central and The British Library for her wider participation writing.

Katarzyna Makowska has been commended along with 7 other entries in an access to understanding competition as Europe PubMed Central and The British Library celebrate accessible, engaging science writing.

The Access to Understanding competition aims to raise awareness amongst researchers of the increasing importance to the general public of being able to understand the outcomes of research which they pay for. Furthermore, it seeks to break down the barriers that highly technical research language presents to enabling understanding of research and encourages PhD students and early career post-doctoral researchers to develop their communications skills.

Katarzyna's entry into the competition covers metastatic lung cancer and scientists advancing understanding of the problem.
