Secrets for Successful Study 2023/2024

Week 2: How to be successful in independent study

Tuesday 4th October at 12:00pm. (Venue to be announced)

The face to face session this week will be an introduction to independent learning, including what is expected of students, effective note taking in lectures and use of the podcasts and resources available via the VLE. This session will be led by Charlotte Haigh.

5 TOP TIPS for successful independent study

  1. Print the slides available on the VLE and take them to the lecture. Annotate whilst the lecturer is talking, try not to write everything, just the key points.
  2. If you miss something, a podcast may be available on the VLE, go back and listen again to complete your notes.
  3. Look through your notes a few days after the lecture, to make sure you fully understand them.
  4. Read the recommended reading and supplement your lecture notes with any additional information within a few days of the lecture, don’t leave it until revision times.
  5. Make sure you are aware of deadlines for other work so you can keep up with going over your notes.
