Secrets for Successful Study 2023/2024

Week 10: The exams, techniques for success and marking criteria

Tuesday 29th November 12:00pm

This session will introduce ways of writing revision notes and revision planning, preparing for exams, and give you an overview of the examination procedures in Biological Sciences. The importance of taking time out will also be discussed. This session will be led by Dr Charlotte Haigh.

5 TOP TIPS for revising and preparing for exams

  1. Plan a realistic revision timetable and stick to it!
  2. Revision time is not time to start reading new references or textbooks, this should be done in independent study; revision time is revising material and practising exam questions
  3. Use the past exam papers as examples to practice or practice MCQ’s available on the VLE. Make sure you are familiar with the format of the exam before you go into the examination room
  4. Find the best place for you to study - whether this is in your room, or at the library, make sure there are no distractions and you are making effective use of your time
  5. Take some time out! Revising 24/7 will not be very effective, put time in your revision timetable to go to the gym or socialise.
