Research Interests

My main interests revolve around inter/crossdisciplinary and applied research with a focus on surface modification of materials for biological, energy and other applications, and their characterization.

I was awarded my PhD from Materials Science and Engineering Department (University of Ioannina, Greece) with a thesis on “Mico-nanomodification of polymers with plasma etching for bioanalytical applications”. My PhD research was an inter/cross-disciplinary project that used plasma as a tool for nanofabrication, employed a lot of characterisation in terms of microscopy, surface chemistry, metrological characterisation, cell culturing experiments and analysis, and optics.
After my PhD, I was awarded a visit grant for 3 months from MP1101 Cost Action “Biomedical Applications of Atmospheric Pressure Plasma Technology” and visited Plasma Processes, Materials and Surfaces laboratory in National Institute for Laser, Plasma and Radiation Physics in Bucharest, Romania. There, I was introduced to the use of atmospheric pressure plasma systems. The aim was to modify surfaces for the creation of biological arrays.

In 2014, I worked in University of Southampton for the fabrication of dual scale scaffolds to direct the attachment and elongation of induced pluripotent stem cell derived cardiomyocytes in order to direct their maturation when cultured.

In 2015 I started working in University of Leeds on the characterisation, use and engineering of foam systems for coating of particles in mixers and surfaces for pharmaceutical, industrial and food applications.

In September 2017 I joined the FBS and School of Biomedicine in University of Leeds for a project that introduces new approaches on time-resolved methodologies. The goal is to provide both spatial and temporal resolution in Electron Microscopy.
