Dr Fouzia Bano

Background: Fouzia obtained her PhD degree in Biophysics from the Scuola Internazionale Superiore de Studi Avanzati, SISSA (Italy, 2009) after completing a one year diploma program in condensed matter physics at the Abdus Salam International Center of Theoretical Physics (ICTP, Italy). During her work in the group of Prof. G. Scoles (Benjamin Franklin Awardee) and Dr. L. Casalis, she developed multiprotein nanoarrays based on the combination of atomic force microscopy (AFM), and DNA-directed immobilization (DDI) and applied them for the label free detection of biomolecular interactions. In 2010, she joined the group of Prof. Duwez at the University of Liege (Belgium) as a post-doctoral fellow, where she honed her expertise in the field of AFM single molecule force spectroscopy. For her second post-doctoral position, she joined the Richter group at CIC biomaGUNE in May 2013 and continue to working with Richter group at University of Leeds from October 2016. Her current work, which is part of the ERC Starting Grant project "JELLY", focuses on understanding the dynamics of glycosaminoglycan-proteins interactions under force down to single molecule level.
