Faculty of Biological Sciences

Research and Innovation

Welcome to our Faculty Research and Innovation pages. Here you can find out how we are seeking to understand fundamental principles and mechanisms in biology and how we are engaging with global challenges in the areas of ’Sustainable Agriculture’ and ’Biomedicine and Health’. To address such challenges we harness the interdisciplinary skills and the state-of-the-art instruments available in our large Faculty. We also work closely with other scientists, clinicians and engineers across the University and indeed across the globe. These collaborations can be discovered by looking at the pages of the relevant cross-faculty centres and from links under each research area.

We are proud that our research and innovation is delivering significant benefits to society and industry, examples of which can be found under research impacts.

We are interested to hear from researchers wishing to hold an Independent Research Fellowship in the Faculty. Please see our Independent Research Fellowships page for further information.

The University of Leeds has been awarded a grant of £1.25m over five years from the Wellcome Trust Institutional Strategic Support Fund (ISSF), this is to support biomedical and related research. To find out more about this funded research opportunity and to explore some of the recently funded projects please visit our Wellcome Trust page.
