Industrial Placements and Study Abroad

Industrial Placements

Work experience is increasingly important in a competitive job market. An industrial placement is an excellent opportunity to sample a relevant workplace environment and give you that "added extra" for entering the job market.

 An industrial placement would:

  • Give you the edge - enhance your future employability
  • Invaluable direct workplace experience
  • Recognised and valued by employers
  • Shape your career path
  • Apply key scientific skills
  • Experience real life industry scenarios
  • Start networking & making contacts

The year in industry is assessed but it does not affect your degree classification. Please note that you can not apply for this scheme until you have started on your degree course. We will provide you with all the information you need to apply during Year 1 with us.

Our industrial placement year programmes have received advanced accreditation by the Royal Society of Biology.

Advanced Degree Accreditation by the Society recognises academic excellence in the biosciences, and highlights degrees that educate the research and development leaders and innovators of the future. The Advanced Accreditation criteria require evidence that graduates from the programme meet defined sets of learning outcomes, including gaining a substantial period of research experience.

In recognition of the period of practice, a graduate of an Advanced Accredited programme can apply for membership of the Society of Biology at Member (MSB) level after just two years of practice, rather than the usual three years. This will allow these graduates to attain the qualifications of Chartered Biologist or Chartered Scientist one year sooner than graduates from other degree programmes.
