Background: Professor John Morrison held a personal Chair of Physiology at Leeds University before he moved to the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at United Arab Emirates University in 1998. He is interested in the physiology and patho-physiology of the autonomic nervous system and its various target organs, particularly those in the lower urinary tract. He is PI on a grant from Sheikh Hamdan Medical Awards (together with Professor Wim Lammers) on the generation of spontaneous activity in the bladder, and the relative roles of intramural nerves and spontaneous smooth muscle activity. These investigations map the spread of electrical activity in the bladder, and investigate the site of pacemakers and the effects of distension on the spread of electrical excitation.
