Madeleine Shaw, studying Human Physiology, and Luke Smith, studying Neuroscience, will join 13 other Leeds undergraduate students who will work and learn alongside Leeds alumni, academics and leadership development organisation, Common Purpose.
Exploring the challenges facing leaders in the business, community and cultural sectors in both Leeds and New York, our students will take part in a 7-day programme of intensive workshops and events.
The Leeds to New York Leadership programme is designed to be an immersive experience, taking our students out of their comfort zones and into a new city to develop their Cultural Intelligence (CQ): the ability to cross divides and thrive in multiple cultures.
The programme aims to develop our students to be the next generation of leaders to solve the major problems of the world, work across boundaries and lead people who are different to them.
Global employers are looking for the kind of talent who can do exactly that, working fluidly across different geographies, sectors and generations. Students who can do so are the ones who will find themselves not only employed, but quickly promoted within global organizations.
Luke and Madeleine will join a history of Leeds to New York participants from the Faculty, including Jessamine Stonehouse (pictured on the far right with 2016’s group of students and North American alumni).
You can follow Luke, Madeleine and the group’s progress on the Leeds to New York Leadership programme through the hashtag #LeedsNewYork on Twitter.
