As part of National Science and Engineering Week, the University holds an annual celebration of science in March/April for schools in the region. Leeds Festival of Science is a four-week programme of science, physical geography, maths, engineering and technology activities for young people aged 9 to 19.
Biological sciences activities are available for KS2-5 and have included: ''Snakes, Slugs and Spiders", "Peripheral nerves uncovered" and "Sports shoes unlimited". The programme is sent to local schools and colleges in December each year and teachers can book on to the workshop of their choice. Activities take place in schools, on campus, and across the city.
The Discovery Zone is one of the highlights of the Leeds Festival of Science programme. Run by postgraduate students, the Discovery Zone gives local Key Stage 2 and 3 pupils the opportunity to try hands-on science in a whistle-stop session of science exploration.
