Dr. Lewis has been awarded one of the SRHE’s (Society for Research into Higher Education) Scoping Awards of £5,000. The award was given for the exploration of any new or emerging areas of higher education research which hopefully will lead onto further research in that area.

The project title; ‘Enhancing employability and building bridges: Evaluation of public engagement opportunities within undergraduate STEM curricula’ fits in well with the University of Leeds wider focus on the importance of STEM in UK education, part of a national concern for the future of STEM subjects and industry within the UK.

The Society stated That Dr Lewis’ proposal “was considered to be very strong, well put together and well thought through and on a topical issues likely to be of wide interest in the field.”

The online research project will help identify novel and innovative ways in which STEM and public engagement activities are incorporated into undergraduate programmes and will help disseminate the most successful methods into programmes at the University at Leeds and throughout the UK.

Dr Lewis concludes that: “Not only can the outcomes be used to enhance student employability but the undergraduate interns who will be employed on the project will develop employability skills during the project and gain valuable work experience.”
