Sport and Exercise Science Alumnus Alistair Brownlee has been recognised by the Queen for his Triathlon gold medal at the London Olympics

Former Faculty student Alistair Brownlee has been officially awarded his MBE in a ceremony in Buckingham Palace. Alistair, who competed alongside his younger brother and fellow Leeds alumnus Johnny Brownlee, returned to the great royal landmark for the ceremony.

On the increasing recognition of his sport, Alistair said:

“Triathlon, most of the time it is only a niche sport and flies under the radar but then all of a sudden it is in the Olympics and the home Olympics in London, on such a brilliant course.”

Alistair was awarded in a ceremony that also saw Olympian Victoria Pendleton, Paralympian Josef Craig, and Fashion Designer Stella McCartney also recognised for their achievements.
