David Hames

David began his academic career studying Biochemistry at the University of Bristol, completed his PhD at the University of Leicester and then was a postdoc at the Institute for Cancer Research, Fox Chase, in Philadelphia on an SERC/NATO Fellowship.

He came back to the UK as one of four founding academic members of the Department of Biology, University of Essex, and 4 years later moved to the University of Leeds. Since then, apart from teaching and running an active research group for many years, the ambition, size and scope of the University of Leeds allowed David to get involved with a host of knowledge transfer projects, including e-learning, academic publishing (books, journals, video and on-line), consulting, and creating a successful spin out venture in the commercial arena.

David brings hands-on experience of a variety of enterprises to the committee and is keen to support fellow academics in new KT opportunities.  As David explains “When you are considering any form of Knowledge Transfer, having an academic colleague available who has ‘been there and done that’ is an invaluable source of help and advice.  It means the learning curve for others should be far easier”
