David Adams has a particular interest in research-led teaching and the promotion of creative approaches to problem-solving in the biosciences. The book Enterprise for Life Scientists. Developing Innovation and Entrepreneurship in the Biosciences, co-edited by David and Professor John Sparrow, University of York, includes a chapter 'Creativity and innovation in the biosciences'. The chapter is co-authored by David and Paul Grimshaw. In addition, the website 'Creativity and Research-led Teaching' was developed during a University Teaching Fellowship. David is Chair of the Faculty of Biological Sciences (FBS) Interdisciplinary Ethics Applied CETL Theme Team Committee. His involvement with the Ethics CETL and the FBS KT Committee stems from his role as Programmes Director for Biochemistry, Microbiology and Bioscience programmes and his participation in various 'enterprise' initiatives across the University.
He is a Senior Lecturer in the Institute of Membranes and Systems Biology (IMSB) within FBS. His research interests include microbial cell walls as targets for antimicrobial agents, and mammalian host defence mechanisms.
