Scholarships for students from Africa

The Faculty of Biological Sciences offers a number of scholarships for African nationals who are both resident and currently being educated in Africa*. The schemes are open to new undergraduate students who commence a programme of study within the Faculty in September 2009.  

Biological Sciences Africa Undergraduate Prize Scholarship - £3,000

For 2009 entry there will be one competitive prize scholarship of £3,000 available for an outstanding African undergraduate student. Applicants should normally apply for a programme of study within the Faculty by 30 May 2009.

  • How to apply: All applicants will be considered via their UCAS application form.
  • Academic criteria: To be awarded as determined by the Faculty International Scholarships Committee.
  • Renewal of scholarship: For undergraduate study, the scholarship may be renewed for up to a maximum of three years of study subject to satisfactory academic progress.

Biological Sciences International Scholarships Scheme - £2,000

Students from Africa may also qualify for the Faculty of Biological Sciences International Scholarship Scheme.

To receive a Faculty of Biological Sciences Africa Prize Scholarship all students must meet all the following conditions:

  • Commence a programme of study in the Faculty of Biological Sciences in September 2009 and be fully registered on 1st December 2009.
  • Be a full-time student paying full overseas-rated fees.
  • Be in receipt of a written scholarship offer from the Faculty and fulfil the academic conditions of that offer.
  • Be an African national who is resident in Africa and educated in Africa immediately prior to joining the Faculty of Biological Sciences at the University of Leeds.  

Scholarships will be allocated subject to the full terms of the schemes. Students may only be awarded one Faculty of Biological Sciences Scholarship.  Faculty of Biological Sciences international scholarships are not available to students who have other University of Leeds scholarships or bursaries or who have secured alternative external sources of funding e.g. government sponsorship. The Faculty reserves the right not to award scholarships if candidates do not meet the required criteria.

China Scholarships 2009 Entry

Chinese MSc Bioscience student

The Faculty of Biological Sciences offers a number of scholarships for Chinese nationals who are both resident and currently being educated in China*. The schemes are open to new undergraduate students who commence a programme of study within the Faculty in September 2009.

The Faculty of Biological Sciences offers a number of scholarships for students from the Gulf and Middle East who are both resident and currently being educated in the Middle East*. Qualifying countries and states include: Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman,Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria and the United Arab Emirates. The schemes are open to new undergraduate students who commence a programme of study within the Faculty in September 2009.  

Biological Sciences Gulf & Middle East Prize Scholarship - £3,000

For 2009 entry there will be one competitive prize scholarship of £3,000 available for an outstanding student from the Gulf & Middle East. Applicants should normally apply for a programme of study within the Faculty by 30 May 2009.

Biological Sciences SE Asia Undergraduate Prize Scholarships - £3,000

For 2009 entry there will be one competitive prize scholarship of £3,000 available for outstanding new undergraduate students from SE Asia (Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia or Brunei).  Applicants should normally apply for a programme of study within the Faculty by 30 May 2009.

  • How to apply: All applicants will be considered via their UCAS application form.
  • Academic criteria: To be awarded as determined by the Faculty International Scholarships Committee.

International Undergraduate Scholarship Schemes 2009 Entry

Group of students

The Faculty of Biological Sciences offers a number of  different scholarships for overseas students paying full overseas-rated fees. There are schemes open to students of all nationalities, as well as a number of country specific schemes. The schemes are open to new undergraduate students who commence a programme of study within the Faculty in September 2009. These schemes do not apply to students paying Home/EU fees.

 

1. Biological Sciences International Prize Scholarships - £3,000

For 2009 entry there will be one competitive prize scholarship of £3,000 available for an outstanding international students. Applicants should normally apply for a programme of study within the Faculty by 30 May 2009.  

  • How to apply: All applicants will be considered via their UCAS application form.
  • Academic criteria: To be awarded as determined by the Faculty International Scholarships Committee.
  • Renewal of scholarship: For undergraduate study, the scholarship may be renewed for up to a maximum of three years of study subject to satisfactory academic progress.

2. Biological Sciences International Scholarships Scheme - £2,000

Scholarships of £2,000 are available to high achieving international students commencing undergraduate degree programmes in the Faculty of Biological Sciences. Scholarships are awarded on academic merit. Undergraduate students; your application through UCAS will enable us to consider you (subject to the terms of the scheme). 

Terms and conditions vary across our different schemes, but the following will apply in all cases. To receive a Faculty of Biological Sciences International Scholarship successful candidates must meet the all following conditions:

  • commence a programme of study in the Faculty of Biological Sciences in September 2009 and be fully registered on 1st December 2009
  • be a full-time student paying full overseas-rated fees
  • be in receipt of a written scholarship offer from us and fulfil the academic conditions of that offer.

For undergraduate study, the scholarship may be renewed for up to a maximum of three years subject to satisfactory academic progress.
